Travis De Vries
Travis De Vries is a Gamilaroi and Dharug artist, cultural leader and founder of Awesome Black, a creative studio and cultural platform working across publishing, music, film and live events.
His practice sits at the intersection of artistic production and cultural infrastructure building. Over the past decade he has worked both inside and outside major institutions including Bangarra Dance Theatre, the Sydney Opera House and the Australian Museum, developing programs, exhibitions and platforms that support First Nations creativity.
In 2020 he founded Awesome Black, which has grown into a multi-platform cultural organisation spanning a creative studio, the STAUNCH editorial imprint and the Awesome Black Foundation. Through this work he develops new cultural infrastructure supporting First Nations artists, writers and musicians.
Alongside his leadership work, Travis maintains an active artistic practice across photography, film, sound and writing, exploring myth, Country and speculative First Nations futures.
